MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMICS
Students will bring home two 6-week progress reports prior to end of each semester. Be aware of these dates as this is a good time to review your student’s progress and to set goals for the end of the semester. Students who receive consistent praise and support from parents are most likely to work to their potential. If a student earns less than a C in a class, some changes need to occur. Below are suggestions you may consider to support your student in improving grades:
- Regularly check Jupiter Grades at https://jupitergrades.com/login/. Talk with your child about each grade calmly. Does your student know why they earned each grade and what needs to be done to improve the grade by the end of the semester? Work together to set goals for improving their grades.
- Support a good study environment at home: Have a scheduled study time (1-2 hours) for your student. Keep a calendar of important due dates to help with time management and to avoid procrastination. Ask to see completed homework before it is submitted.
- Familiarize yourself with the iPad, learn how to check assignments on the various apps teachers use. In addition, monitor homework time to ensure students are working on their homework and not on other websites.
- Contact the teacher to better understand areas for improvements. Phone messages can be left for teachers by contacting the school, teachers may respond sooner to direct email through Jupitergrades or through school website. If needed, a parent/teacher conference can be schedule by contacting the Counseling Center secretary.
- If your student is struggling academically there are several tutoring options:
- Advisory Passes
- Homework Center in the Library before and after school
- Encourage your student to learn the importance of being responsible by providing reinforcement for their academic effort.
